Glitch: Disable Background Music
On the title screen, let all three demos cycle through then start a new game or continue a saved game. The background music won't play.
To disable this, you can either lose a life, fight the boss of the level, or reset the game. Note that when the demos are cycling by, don't skip them. If you do, the glitch won't work.
